How It Works

Habitat for Humanity of Burlington County is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. We are an autonomous, not-for-profit corporation that receives no money from Habitat International and accept no direct government funds.

Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry. We welcome all people to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with those in need of adequate shelter.

  • We build with volunteer labor.
  • Partner families invest 500 hours of "sweat equity" in construction and related activities in order to learn home maintenance and other "life skills."
  • We are funded primarily by tax deductible donations of money, materials and services.
  • The Partner Family purchases a home with a zero interest mortgage and no money down from Habitat Burlington County.
  • Mortgage payments go into a revolving fund used to build new homes.
  • Habitat for Humanity of Burlington County tithes 10% of non-designated funds to Habitat International, which is used to build homes overseas.

"In the last few years Habitat for Humanity has restored and built many houses in the area. The neighborhood looks nothing like it did ten years ago. Some of my neighbors say that Habitat for Humanity makes a big difference in the way the neighborhood looks. But I think they make a bigger difference in how the neighborhood feels. It is great to know someone cares and is willing to do something about it."
