How your House of Worship Can Be Involved
Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian ministry that works to
eliminate substandard housing by building affordable housing in partnership
with and for those in need. An important goal for our Unity House
project is to put faith into action by bringing together different faith
communities to participate in the funding and building of a Habitat
House. In addition to funding and building there are other ways churches can
participate in the Habitat ministry. Here are some other reasons why
Habitat for Humanity is a good choice fro partnership with your
congregation:
-
HFHBC is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry open to all.
-
HFHBC is a non-profit, New Jersey Corporation and an
authorized affiliate of Habitat
for Humanity International.
-
HFHBC is self-supporting through tax deductible donations
and grants. We contribute 10% of
non-designated contributions to Habitat for Humanity International to
support our international mission. HFHBC
does not receive any financial support from
Habitat for Humanity, International.
-
HFHBC builds safe, simple, affordable housing in
partnership with families in
need.
-
Families are accepted into the program based on
financial need, their willingness to partner
by investing 500 hours of sweat equity in home construction and other activities, and their
ability to pay approximately $600- $800 per month for a mortgage, property
taxes and home insurance.
Ways To Participate:
-
Support
the Unity House Project To date, we have raised over $22,000 to
fund the construction of Unity House 3.
-
Provide Volunteers Volunteers can work at the work site, help
with family selection and other committees or provide food and snacks
for volunteers working at our construction site.
-
Partner with us! - to hold a fundraising event, to build a new home
or rehab an existing. We can provide the materials, logistical planning,
and construction expertise while your congregation provides the
volunteers and the property!
-
Refer members of your congregation to serve on our Board of
Directors.
The Benefits of Involving Your Congregation:
-
Habitat for Humanity can help people see God outside the four walls
of the church.
-
A Habitat project can be just the spark that gets people in your
church excited about working in Christian community and help to
strengthen congregations.
-
Building together allows people to put their faith into action.
Habitat becomes a living expression of Christian concern.
-
Together, we can change not only a family, but an entire community!
Your church, synagogue, mosque, or other house of
worship has the people, strength, reputation, and interest in community
affairs necessary for effective leadership. We need your participation
and gifts of time, money, and talent.
Individuals can experience spiritual growth through their service to
others. Inherent in our faith is the call to serve the poor and to serve
others as a witness to the God and Father of all. We have been blessed and
want to thank all of you who supported Unity Houses I & II. We need your
continued support and are seeking additional members to help launch more
Unity House projects. For more information,
